Distinguished Guests and Friends from the Media
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Good morning to all of you.
I would like to welcome our new partner Epson, as well as all of you, for being with us on this very important and exciting day.
Today marks the day where we celebrate the partnership of two parties with a shared vision; that is to ensure the continued commitment to excellence and innovation. Epson is one of the world's leading manufacturers of computer printers, information and imaging-related equipment and I am thrilled to welcome them aboard as an important partner in our pursuit of football excellence in Singapore.
Under the three-year sponsorship agreement, Epson will provide FAS with the latest office equipment to aid the development of local football in many areas which includes, but not limited to, new e-learning boards in the form of interactive projectors, and stadium projectors, two of which have already been installed here at the Jalan Besar Stadium. These projectors will enhance the fan experience in Jalan Besar Stadium where we host LionsXII and Courts Young Lions’ home games as well as S.League ‘Live’ matches.
I am glad that Epson shares our vision of providing a thoroughly entertaining match-day experience to our loyal fans who have given us their unwavering support throughout the years.
I am excited at the prospect that this new partnership will bring about more innovative ways of developing our game. With this sponsorship, coaches will be provided access to the Epson interactive projector, which is being used worldwide in many sporting arenas. The Epson interactive projector is a useful tool for tactical planning and I am certain this will benefit all our national teams, in terms of improving their game plans.
We are delighted to note that Epson, with its partnership with Manchester United, is a champion of noteworthy causes, especially with the recent inaugural launch of the Epson United Spirit Soccer Clinic. One of the key objectives in our FAS Strategic Plan is to work towards growing our game through grassroots and community football. We have implemented many outreach programmes, including various football clinics in schools, to raise awareness on local football and to promote a healthy lifestyle. We hope to work closely with Epson to continue developing more of these programmes.
On the same note, we hope that Epson’s partnership with Manchester United will enable us to work together to continue to develop our young football talents, with the possibility of training stints with one of the world’s most renowned clubs. These are all very exciting prospects and I am glad that we have a dedicated team here at FAS who have worked hard to make this possible.
As it has always been stressed, youth development is a key component in our Strategic Plan. We have a few of our young players from the different age groups in attendance this morning and we hope that they will one day become our future football stars. We constantly look towards exposing our young footballers to international football, with our National Football Academy (NFA) teams’ participation in various tournaments. Currently, our NFA Under-15 team is participating in the Asean Football Federation (AFF) Under-16 Championship in Naypyidaw, Myanmar. They recently secured an impressive 2-0 victory over the Philippines on Sunday. We believe the experience and exposure for our Under-15 boys at this year’s tournament will further enhance their development and we wish the boys all the best in their remaining matches!
We are thankful to have been able to garner support from corporations such as Epson in our pursuit of football excellence in various areas including the enhancement of fan match day experience. Support from corporations is essential and will facilitate our on-going efforts to raise our footballing standards. We hope that this partnership with a leading global brand such as Epson will prompt more corporations to step forward and use football as a useful platform to promote brand awareness and equity.
As we move forward towards the future of Singapore football, there remains much hard work ahead. In order to raise the standards of local football at all levels, we have to look forward to the continued support from our stakeholders including clubs, sponsors, government agencies, media, fans, volunteers, players and family members of our players. We also humbly call on others, including potential sponsors, to join us and work together to further promote and develop the beautiful game in Singapore.
Once again, I would like to thank Mr Endo and Epson for their support and we look forward to a close and collaborative relationship which will benefit both parties. On this note, I thank all of you for your presence this morning and have a pleasant day ahead.
