The Football Association of Singapore (FAS) is aware of the incident that took place during the FA Cup match between Balestier United Recreation Club and Singapore Armed Forces Sports Association on Saturday night. We would like to reiterate that the FAS does not condone violence of any form, and the alleged behaviour has no place in football.

We had heard suggestions that some members were planning to vote against the agenda of the AFC extraordinary congress. However, we felt that it would be inappropriate to do so as the objectives of the extraordinary congress had already been made known months in advance and no objections had been raised previously.

Ultimately, it is our aim to develop better players who also become better persons through our youth development programmes. Youth development is a long-term project and we seek the continued support of our stakeholders, including the media, which will strengthen our abilities to groom the next generation of talented youth players in Singapore.

At the end of the day, the result matters but we believe we had a good game today, and with all the chances that we had, we shouldn’t have lost – at least a draw. I don’t think Cambodia had more chances than Singapore. We had three hit the crossbar, three sitters... Hopefully we can get better before the next international game.

The employability and long-term prospects for our players after their footballing careers are important to us. Since 2014, we have established a scheme termed the “Career Enrichment Scheme (CES)” for S.League players to help them assess diverse career options after they retire from football.

We are looking forward to the game tomorrow night against Cambodia. I want to give other players who have travelled and trained with us for the last nine days a chance to be in an international ‘A’ game. This is a good platform for these players to express themselves and show their abilities.

Youth teams are generally developmental sides; rejuvenation and renewal of teams across the different age-groups is part and parcel of football at the developmental level all over the world, not just in Singapore.

The door to the National Team is open to any eligible player who consistently performs well for their club. Daniel, as well as the other 24 players in the squad, has done well this season and deserved this call-up.

We are working closely with the affected sit-out S.League clubs that has to vacate the Sport Singapore premises as they are no longer playing in the S.League. The affected clubs are Tanjong Pagar United FC, Woodlands Wellington FC and Gombak United FC. All parties are working closely together to ensure minimal disruption and inconvenience caused by the relocation. In the past, sit-out clubs have returned to the S.League. Sit-out S.League clubs are still engaged in Singapore football; for example, at the grassroots level, in the Centres of Excellence (COEs) and in Women’s Football.
