The Myanmar Football Federation had invited the Singapore Under-22 National Team to play an international friendly against the Myanmar Under-22 National Team in Yangon, Myanmar, on 19 February 2017. As part of our ongoing preparations for the 2017 SEA Games, our coaches accepted the invitation and in accordance with international guidelines, the match was also sanctioned by the Asian Football Confederation. It was a positive experience for our team – which had an average age of 19.67.

At present, the participation of Albirex Niigata FC (S) (ANFC) in the S.League is based on the understanding that it is a foreign club and should comprise of all Japanese players and technical staff. ANFC has contributed very much to the S.League and has performed well both on and off the field, with a number of their players having gone on to play for other S.League clubs.

Based on the principle of ensuring fair competition in the S.League, we will – after getting feedback from the clubs – allow DPMM FC to have the option of having an Under-21 foreign player to play according to the same rules that apply to all other S.League clubs who also have an option of having an Under-21 foreign player.

In line with our plans to further develop football at all levels and provide more playing opportunities for our footballers, the 2017 National Football League (NFL) will comprise two divisions with 12 teams playing in each division. Clubs which participated in the Island Wide League (IWL) in 2016 will now compete in NFL Division Two where they will get to play more matches; as such, there will be no IWL for 2017. The voting rights of all existing member clubs will remain intact.

The S.League understands that the clubs had in the past been under the perception that the “allowance” paid to the Prime League players did not necessitate CPF contribution. The respective clubs concerned are in the process of resolving the matter with the CPF Board. We are confident that the clubs will be able to quickly and fairly resolve this matter. The S.League shall provide the relevant assistance to the clubs where possible.
