SINGAPORE, 13 MARCH 2015: The Football Association of Singapore (FAS) is pleased to announce that three promising young footballers who have progressed through the National Football Academy (NFA) system departed for France this morning for a 10-day training stint with French Ligue 1 side FC Metz. Benjamin James Davies (NFA Under-15), Muhammad Hami Syahin Bin Said (NFA Under-18) and Muhammad Muhelmy Bin Suhaimi (Tampines Rovers Prime League, NFA graduate) were chosen for the training trip in recognition of their good performance.

FC Metz boasts a much-vaunted youth system, having produced players such as Rigobert Song, Robert Pirès, Louis Saha, Emmanuel Adebayor, Papiss Cissé and Miralem Pjanić, among others.

Muhelmy was the recipient of The New Paper Dollah Kassim Award 2014, which honours the brightest young talent in Singapore football every year. His trip will be sponsored by Singapore Pools as part of its partnership with FAS for him to further his pursuit of sporting excellence, while Benjamin and Hami’s trips were made possible through the Football Development Fund.

As part of FAS’ efforts to broaden the horizons of our coaching staff, our NFA coach Robin Chitrakar will accompany the boys on their training trip. He will also be visiting Ligue 1 team Olympique Lyonnais, and will be having dialogue sessions with the coaches of both French clubs.

“We are grateful to Singapore Pools for their support to send Muhelmy on this training stint. As a forward-looking organisation, the FAS believes in investing in the future. Therefore, Benjamin and Hami will be joining Muhelmy on this training trip as beneficiaries of the Football Development Fund, which was started in 2012 to send our most promising young footballers on training stints. I am sure that this experience will benefit all three players and aid greatly in their long-term development,” said S. Varatha Rajan, General Manager, Youth Development, Football Association of Singapore.
