COE Challenge Cup

The Centre of Excellence Challenge Cup Finals for both the Under-16s and Under-18s will be held this coming Sunday, 6 December at the Jalan Besar stadium.

The tournament, which was played over the last three weeks, consists of the S.League COE teams and the private football academies located here in Singapore.

The International Soccer Academy (ISA), JSSL Arsenal Soccer School and ANZA Soccer took part in both age group tournaments.

Ngee Ann Polytechnic took part in the Under-18 Challenge Cup.

Singapore U18s head to Vietnam for the AFF Youth Championship

Singapore National Football Academy’s Under-18s will be travelling to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam this Sunday to compete in the Asean Football Federation (AFF) Under-19 Youth Championship 2009, which kicks off on 4 August 2009.

The Singapore team is coached by former national midfielder Salim Moin and the 20-men squad will boast of seven players currently on the Young Lions’ roster, including striker Khairul Nizam and midfielder Eugene Luo.

Singapore draw with Australia in AFF U19 Championship

Singapore’s Under-18 team yesterday kicked off their Asean Football Federation Under-19 Youth Championship with a 1-1 draw against favourites Australia in their opening match of the tournament at the Thanh Long Sports Centre in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.

The team started shakily against the bigger and more physical Australians and soon found themselves a goal down after 19 minutes. However, the goal was just what Singapore needed to jolt them back and the team soon settled down and organised their defense better. 

Singapore comeback seals 3-1 win over Cambodia

The Singapore Under-18 team battled back from a goal down to secure a crucial 3-1 win over Cambodia in their second match of the AFF Under-19 Youth Championship at the Thanh Long Sports Centre in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam on Thursday 6 August.

The Singapore team found themselves a goal down 17 minutes into the first half after a lapse in concentration allowed Cambodian striker Prak Mony Udom to get on the score-sheet.

Shootout heartbreak for U-18s

Singapore U-18 exited the Asian Schools Championships after a 3-1 penalty shootout loss to Thailand in the semi-finals.

The Cubs' topscorer in the tournament Zulkifli Hassim netted his fourth goal of the Championships as the two teams drew 2-2 in 90 minutes, midfielder Zulfadli Zainal scoring Singapore's other goal.

But it was Thailand who held their nerve in the shootout, triumphing 3-1 to progress to the final against South Korea where they lost 1-0 to the Koreans.
