COE FutureStars: Ishak reaps loyalty dividend

In an age where young starlets often rack up several clubs on their CV before their 20th birthday, Ishak Sallim is a standard-bearer for the benefits of loyalty.

The midfielder has risen through the ranks at Balestier Khalsa's Centre of Excellence, and currently captains their U18 team in his fourth year at the club.

Geylang United confirmed their third spot in the COE U18 League after NFA U16 could only draw 1-1 with Tampines Rovers on Wednesday (Aug 17). NFA U16, who had a mathematical chance of overtaking Geylang, remains fourth.

FAS Centre-of-Excellence Under-18 Challenge Cup 2005

SAFFC raced to a perfect start of the COE U18 Challenge Cup with a 4-0 thrashing of Balestier Khalsa in Group B on Aug 20 (Saturday).

Goals by Ridhwan Osman (two), Gursharan Singh and Nurhasan Amir helped the Young Warriors tame the Tiger Cubs. In another Group B game, Woodlands Wellington and NFA U16 fought to a 2-2 draw.

Home United made it a winning start in the COE U18 Challenge Cup after beating Tanjong Pagar United 2-1 in Group B.

The result meant that Home join SAFFC at the top of Group B with a win each.

Over in Group A, it was a day of goalless draws but leader Geylang United maintained their lead at the top.

Goals by Wahyudi Wahid(two), Syamsul Bahri, Zulfadhli Suzliman and Selamat Jati saw the national side move into second spot.

FAS Centre-of-Excellence Under-18 Challenge Cup 2005

Geylang United gave a 4-0 trouncing of the NFA U16 in their final group game, however the Young Eagles' fate in the competition is now out of their hands.

Scoring through Md Faizul (26th), Md Suhairi (30th), Md Heiqal (54th) and Md Faizil (89th), Geylang now lead Group A with seven points from four games.

Woodlands Wellington secured a place in the final of the COE U18 Challenge Cup after two late goals saw them turn the tables on Tampines Rovers for a 2-1 win at Sembawang Secondary School.

The result meant that Woodlands finished top of Group A and will now meet the Group B winner for the trophy.

SAFFC will meet Group A champions Woodlands Wellington in the final of the COE U18 Challenge Cup after a 2-0 win over Gombak United on Wednesday.

SAFFC needed just a draw to top Group B but goals by Hafiz Roslan (56th) and Nurhaizal Sufri (72nd) confirmed the three points and the top spot.

A pair of goals early in the game helped SAFFC to a triumph in the inaugural COE U18 Challenge Cup with a 2-0 win over Woodlands Wellington.

Woodlands had opened the game strongly at St Wilfrid Sports Complex, but it was the young Warriors who struck in the 11th minute.
