UNDER-22 NATIONAL TEAM TO PLAY IN DUBAI CUP

SINGAPORE, 19 MARCH 2017: As part of the Under-22 National Team’s preparations for the Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) in August this year, the Football Association of Singapore (FAS) today announced that the team will be playing in the Dubai Cup Under-23 – United Arab Emirates (UAE) International Football Tournament.

The Lions fell to a last-minute goal by the War Elephants earlier this afternoon, after putting in an excellent tactical performance which would have been enough to earn at least a draw on another day.

Despite playing for an hour with a man less, the Singapore National Team managed to secure a 0-0 draw against much-fancied hosts Philippines in their 2016 AFF Suzuki Cup opener on Saturday night.

Hafiz Sujad was given a straight red just after the half-hour mark, but the spirited Lions produced a doggedly determined display to keep their opponents – the top-ranked team in Southeast Asia – at bay and get their Suzuki Cup campaign off to a good start in front of 4,339 fans at the Philippine Sports Stadium.

After months of extensive preparation, the Singapore National Team are all geared up for Saturday night’s ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) Suzuki Cup Group A opener against hosts Philippines at the Philippine Sports Stadium.

The Lions were one of the first teams to arrive in Manila for the group stage matches when they departed Singapore on Tuesday evening, underlining the seriousness with which they are taking their preparations for the prestigious biennial regional tournament.
